Abstract:   (1094 Views)
Aims: This research aimed to conduct an anthropological analysis of the cultural manifestations of Zandiye architecture, emphasizing its multi-layered functions and hidden meanings in Shiraz's tourism development.
Methodology: This qualitative study used a predominantly ethnographic approach and was conducted in spring and summer 2023 in the Vakil historical complex of Shiraz (including the Karim Khan Citadel, Vakil Mosque, Vakil Bath, and Vakil Bazaar). In-depth interviews with 15 local experts and scholars and a review of historical documents were conducted and analyzed using the three-stage coding method of grounded theory (Strauss and Corbin), which was based on architectural phenomenology to understand the mood of space and Henri Lefebvre's theory of space production to examine the socio-political dimensions of space.
Findings: In total, 242 initial codes were extracted from three data sources; these were classified into 19 secondary codes and 5 sub-categories, and ultimately coded into a single main category. Zandiye-era buildings served a variety of functions, including health, social, political, and symbolic; however, converting these spaces into museums has preserved their purely visual aspect and focused solely on physical restoration.
Conclusion: Zandiye architecture is a powerful tool for preserving cultural identity, and its revival today requires an experience-based, phenomenological approach so this valuable heritage continues to serve as a living bridge between past and present and plays a pivotal role in developing sustainable cultural tourism.
